Punting Patto's Saturday Selections

What a way to end the month, I might have had a bad day on the horses but the latest episode from Punting Patto is an absolute classic. Patto delivers his legendary tips for Saturdays Australian racing and performs an incredible song of racing gold. Does it get any better than this?

January 2008 Review

PROFIT / LOSS = + 103 Points

We had some good priced winners, we turned over plenty of odds on shots and short priced favourites. We listened to lots of different styles of music including classic rock, gangster rap, classical, heavy metal, blues, hip hop, old skool rave, dance and classic TV themes.

We made roughly 103 points profit and had fun which is always the main thing, so I cant complain at all about the month of January and here is to an equally good February.

Back Flash

9:20 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

2 Point Win - BACKLASH @ 9.0
2 Point Win - BACKLASH @ 2.62

RESULT:

A bad result to end a bad day. I think I knew my fate before the race had started as Backlash was trading at 9.0 when I posted and then doubled in price to 18.0 before the off. Im sure it was nothing dodgy though, but its a losing day of just over 12 points and a bad way to end the month.

Grand drat the gee

8:50 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

3 Point Lay - GRAND STRATEGY @ 2.84
1/2 Point Win - TEVEZ @ 14.0
1/2 Point Win - DHHAAMAN @ 14.0

RESULT:
http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253942,00.html

A heartbreaking result as Tevez hit the front in the final yards only to be headed again on the line, he traded at 1.11 in running but ended up getting beat by the lay horse Grand Strategy. It went to a photo but a nostril was the difference between 9 points profit and a loss of 6.52. We lost 6.52 points on the bet.

Final bet of January at 9:05

Desert Arctic

7:20 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

3 Point Lay - ARCTIC DESSERT @ 2.0
1 Point Win - BETHANYS BOY @ 3.95

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253939,00.html

A good result after a couple of reversals with Arctic Dessert unplaced in 3rd. Bethanys Boy could only manage 2nd so we didnt land the Brucie Bonus but 2 points profit from the bet.

Next bet posted at 8:35pm.

Dutch

6:30 Nad Al Sheba

Advised bet:

1 Point WIN - MONEY BAGS @ 11.5
1Point WIN - ANS BACH @ 8.4

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,254295,00.html

A loss of 2 points on the bet as neither Money Bags or Ans Bach could land a blow. An annoying result as my original plan had been to lay the favourite The Illies but he was trading at too big a price for me to lay, so I switched to a dutch bet and paid the price.

Slack Cat Slack Kitten

5:30 Nad Al Sheba

Advised bet:

3 Point Lay - BLACKAT BLACKITTEN @ 2.56

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,254293,00.html

A bad result with Blackat Blackitten winning.

Jimmy bleugh

2:05 Thurles

Advised bet:

3 Point Lay - JIMMY BER @ 2.62

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,254094,00.html

A good start to the day with favourite Jimmy Ber beaten in 3rd place.

Wreck is it?

9:20 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

3 Point Lay - REQUISITE @ 2.96

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253871,00.html

The first ever dead heat on the blog. Now I never can work these out properly on Betfair but I think the stated bet is half the stake layed at 2.96 which would mean we lost 1.98 points on the bet (I layed Sovine in the photo at 1.3 as well as I couldnt split them when they passed the post. A loss of 1.98 on the bet but another winning day with a profit of 9.95 on the day to add to Mondays profit of 10 points and yesterdays profit of 9 points. (Im sure someone will correct me if I have worked the dead heat out wrong).

11.93 profits on the day going into the final race of the day, so another profitable day is guaranteed regardless of this result, but hopefully it will finish on a high and not a low with the handicap debutant Requisite getting turned over.

Maromito go fast

8:50 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

2 Point Win - MAROMITO @ 13.0
LAY entire stake back in running at 10.0 (set bet as soon as race starts, it should get matched as he is a trail blazer).

RESULT:

Maromito did go fast. 10.0 did flash up in running and a small ammount was matched but I will record it as a 2 point loss. I would guess a few people would have cut level on the race and more will have lost, so its fairer to record a loss on the bet.

Mineral? Yeah right

8:20 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

2 Point Place Lay - MINERAL RIGHTS @ 2.5

RESULT:
http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253869,00.html

A bad result as Mineral Rights not only placed but he won the race and turned the 1/3 favourite over. It made no difference to me whether he was 1st or 2nd as either of those positions meant we had to pay the same ammount out, but Im somewhat embarrassed by the result all the same. A loss of 3 points on the bet.

Inspirational

7:50 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

2 Point Place BACK - INSPIRINA @ 2.04

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253868,00.html

Another great result with Inspirina placed in 2nd. The price took a serious dip shortly after I posted but hopefully a lot of you would have managed to get the price. A profit of 2.08 points on the bet.

Muja no hope

6:50 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

2 Point Place Lay - MUJAHOPE @ 2.46

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253867,00.html

Another good result with Mujahope unplaced in 3rd. I would have layed the favourite if I knew it was going to get beat but unfortunately my crystal ball is out of order so we have to settle for a profit of 2 points on the place lay.

Almatys been pressed

6:50 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

3 Point Lay - ALMATYS EXPRESS @ 2.56

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253866,00.html

A good result with Almatys Express unplaced in 3rd.

Star affirmative

2:55 Lingfield

Advised bet

1 Point Win - AFFIRMATIVELY @ 14.0
1 Point Win - SOUTHWEST STAR @ 8.4

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253862,00.html

A great result and 6.4 points profit from the bet as Southwest Star won with Affirmatively less than a length away in 3rd. Odds on fav well beaten in last place. That makes it 9.85 points profit on the afternoon.

Last bet for this afternoon, guaranteed a small profit on the afternoon whatever happens in this race. Will post again at 6:30pm for any evening bets.

Salt of no worth

2:25 Lingfield

Advised bet

3 Point Lay - SALT OF THE EARTH @ 2.26

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253861,00.html

A good result with Salt of the Earth comfortably held in 2nd.

Kealshore toy

2:10 Newcastle

Advised bet:

3 Point Lay - KEALSHORE BOY @ 1.85

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253892,00.html

A bad result as Kealshore Boy won very easily resulting in a loss of 2.55 points.

Bantry where?

1:20 Exeter

Advised Bet

3 Point Lay - BANTRY BERE @ 2.56
1Point Win - HAMMER TIME @ 8.0

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,254218,00.html

A good start to the day with Bantry Bere comfortably beaten in 3rd. Hammer Time was unplaced after leading for a lot of the race but its a profit of 2 points on the race.

Tuesday 29 January 2008

Ballybrainy

4:20 Folkestone

Advised bet:

1 Point Win - BALLYRAINEY @ 16.0
1 Point Place - BALLY RAINEY @ 3.3
3 Point Place Lay - SAFARI ADVENTURE @ 1.86

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253803,00.html

Another winning bet to end the day, making it 4 wins from 4 races as Safari Adventure was unplaced and 20 lengths behind the 3rd. Ballyrainey ran very flat and was never travelling, eventually being pulled up. 9 points profit on the day to add to the 10 we made on Monday. Class is permanent, form is temporary. ;)

No Mr President

4:00 Southwell

Advised bet:

2 Point Lay - YES MR PRESIDENT @2.66

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253796,00.html

Another good result with Yes Mr President unplaced in 4th.

Canheheck

3:00 Southwell

Advised bet:

3 Point Lay - KANISORN @ 1.75

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253795,00.html

Another odds on favourite turned over as Kanisorn could only get 2nd and was comfortably beaten by Maria Antonia. There was a long gap back to the 3rd.

Haldy Baldy

1:40 Taunton

Advised bet:

3 Point LAy - HALDBARI @ 1.58

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253799,00.html

A low risk and easy 3 points on the board as Haldbari was unplaced.

Monday 28 January 2008

Atlantic Glory?

4:20 Kempton

2 Point Win - ATLANTIC STORY @ 3.55

This is the final bet of the day. If beaten we end the day 10 points in profit. If it wins then its a profit of 17.10 points on the day.

Mash and ate

3:40 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

2 Point Lay - MACHINATE @ 2.5

A great way to start the week as Wasalat wins, landing a profit of 15 points on the bet.

Final bet of the night

9:20 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

1 Point Win - NORWEGIAN @ 8.0
3/4 Point Win - TINAS RIDGE @ 27.0
1/4 Point Win - DIVINE RIDGE @ 230.0
6 Point Place Lay - SUPERCAST @ 1.8

This is a tricky race and confidence couldnt be high but being 12 points up on the evening card going into the race, I am prepared to take my chance as an evening profit is guaranteed whatever happens.

The big un

8:50 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

9 Point Win - OTAKI @ 2.22
1 Point Win - AQUA PURA @ 17.0

Im over 22 points in profit on the evening card and am throwing caution to the wind with this bet. Otaki should be hard to beat, however if AP Stringer follows in the footsteps of Barney Curley (who he took over from) then tonight will be the night that Aqua Pura wins. If im wrong on the bet Im wrong, but would be pretty confident that I should have the winner here.

Hmmmmm

8:20 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

3 Point Win - WHASTON @ 3.3
3 Point Win - HOLLOW POINT @ 6.4

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253587,00.html

The first losing bet of the evening card as Whaston was 2nd with Hollow Point 3rd.

Three becomes won

7:50 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

3 Point Win - YOUNG SCOTTON @ 4.2
3 Point Win - OPERA WRITER @ 3.9
1 Point Win - NOUNOU @ 18.5

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253586,00.html

Another winning bet as Opera Writer wins nicely under a good ride by Jim Crowley, Young Scotton got 3rd and Nounou was struggling early on in the race and never got involved. 4.7 points profit on the bet.

Strange bet

7:20 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

5 Point Win - ALEXANDRA HURRICANE @ 1.45
2 Point Win - EMACOLALI @ 5.2

A strange looking bet but one that I will be shocked if we lose on.

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253693,00.html

Another winning bet. Only a 1/4 of a point in perhaps the worst race I have ever seen but a win is a win and you cant complain about that.

Miss Sensational

6:50 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

2 Point Win - MISS CURLY @ 9.6
2 Point Place - MISS CURLY @ 2.4
4 Point Lay - DODAA @ 2.24

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253585,00.html

Well after a shocking Friday and an equally bad Saturday afternoon, many people were writing off The Brig as being useless and were jumping ship, it did not matter that the blog is thousands of point in profit (Could be a slight exaggeration there), mug punters judge you on 1 or 2 bets and forget the past.
Well good riddance to them cos the faithful just collected 23.6 points profit from one bet as Miss Curly finished fast and late to get up on the line with the lay back in 3rd.

Dutch is butch

3:50 Cheltenham

Advised bet:

5 Point Win - BLAZING BAILEY @ 4.0

Advised bet:

5 Point Win - FRANCHOEK @ 2.0

3:00 Doncaster

Advised bet:

5 Point Win - OPERA MUNDI @ 8.0
5 Point Place - OPERA MUNDI @ 2.7

Possible one more bet and will post after this race.

Max bet

2:40 Cheltenham

Advised bet:

5 Point Win - NEPTUNES COLLOGNES @ 4.5
5 Point Win - MADISON DU BERLAIS @ 8.0

This is a max bet for me (never risk more than 10 points in any one race. Looking forward to this one and fancy Madison strongly but see Neptunes as being a live danger).

I have another max bet today that I will be posting as soon as this race has finished regardless of what happens in this race.

Chomba Wompered?

1:55 Doncaster

Advised bet:

4 Point Win - THEATRE GIRL @ 3.1
1 Point Win - TROMPETTE @ 13.0

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253599,00.html

Theatre Girl ran a great race in 2nd place and was only beaten by 3/4 length. Hats off to Chomba Womba who had run her last 2 races over 2m 5f but had the pace to win back over the minimum trip at this level. A really good performance by the fav and no complaints whatsover from me.

Boomshakalak I like it like that

1:35 Cheltenham

Advised bet:

5 Point Win - BOOMSHAKALAKA @ 4.2
(Lay your 5 point stake back in running at 2.2 - will give us a risk free bet if matched, just set the lay as soon as the race starts and see if matched, great chance it will be)

Will post next bet as soon as race has finished.

Whooshy

12:40 Lingfield

Advised bet:

2 Point Win - WHERRY @ 12.5
2 Point Place - WHERRY @ 2.52
5 Point In Running Lay - OBERLIN @ 1.5 (set lay as soon as race starts and just see if it gets matched)

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253578,00.html

A winning start to Saturday as Wherry got 3rd place beaten less than a length and ensured we made 1 .04 points profit from the bet. Oberlin was beaten in 2nd but annoyingly he only hit 1.51 in running. If he had have hit 1.5 in running we would have won 6.04 points from the bet but we missed out by 0.01. I will take a winning start however after yesterdays disgrace.

Next bet posted at 1pm.

Black Friday - Reviewed

Well Friday was one hell of a shocker for me. These things happen Im afraid and when it isnt your day it isnt your day.

I have just added the total profit up from last Friday to this Thursday (7 day period) and I made a staggering (around about) 74 points profit. So I gave back about 25 points yesterday on Black Friday but 49 points profit over 8 days is nothing to cry about.

What do you do after a bad day like yesterday?
Do you get down in the dumps and sulk?
Do you try and change your selection methods and the way you do things?
Do you beat yourself up over an awful day?
Do you throw the towel in and give up?
Do you black it out and pretend it never happened?

The answer to all of the above is a definitive NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What you do is, you stick the Prodigy on, watch a Muhammad Ali inspirational speech video on youtube and then you pick yourself up off the canvas and take care of things on Super Saturday and that is fully what I intend to do...............

Friday 25 January 2008

What a shocker of a day

7:50 Kempton

Advised Bet:

5 Point Lay - BRIDGEWATER BOYS @2.56

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253445,00.html

A bad result as Bridgewater Boys won.

Advised Bet:

5 Point Lay - CONTRA MUNDUM @ 1.64

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253448,00.html

Loseberg

6:50 Kempton

Advised bet:

5 Point Lay - WYNBERG @ 1.87
1 Point Win - OCEAN GLORY @ 16.5
1 Point Place - OCEAN GLORY @ 3.35

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253443,00.html

Another bad result as Wynberg wins. Ocean Glory led for most of the race but went out like a light in the final furlong.

King of Smarm

6:20 Kempton

Advised bet:

5 Point LAY - KING OF CHARM @ 2.7

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253442,00.html

A bad start to the evening as King Of Charm wins.

Cant think of a witty title

4:10 Doncaster

1 Point PLACE - BALLYNALTY EXPRESS @2.76

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253461,00.html

An absolute shocker of a run from Ballynalty Express who was the last of the finishers in 20th place. I cant explain why he ran so badly but run badly he did.
4:30 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

5 Point LAY - CONFIDENTIALITY @ 2.54

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253454,00.html

A good way to end a busy day with Confidentiality finally being beaten after 6 wins in a row. She was unplaced in 4th. Finish a busy old Friday afternoon 3.3 points down but Im hopeful of turning it round and ending another day in profit with the evening card.
Evening bets posted at 6:10pm/

3 Point Place Lay - BY THE EDGE @ 2.0

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253449,00.html

A losing bet as By The Edge won the race. On the positive side it was a good job I didnt lay him in the win market. Loss of 3 points.

Punting Patto's Saturday Selections

Well it's my favourite time of the week again. The legendary Punting Patto's 'Saturday Selections', following on from an outrageous winner, a second and a fourth last week the great man gives us his best bets for the Flemington Card on Saturday. Patto also delivers an outstanding song once again.

Just call me useless

6:50 Wolverhampton

Advised bet:

3 Point Lay - JUSTCALLMEHANDSOME @ 2.5

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253311,00.html

A good way to end the day, Justcallmehandsome was unplaced in 4th and ensured it was another winning day for Godfrey.

Asiatic toy

5:55 Nad Al Sheba

Advised Bet:

5 Point Lay - ASIATIC BOY @ 2.04

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253790,00.html

A losing bet as Asiatic Boy won. Unfortunately the 2nd fav Diabolical had a diabolical exit from the stalls, he stumbled out and his nose hit the dirt, he was never going to recover from that. Asiatic Boy looked badly outpaced over this trip before staying on to win. Classy horse and classy performance, hats off to him.

Win like an Egyptian

3:00 Southwell

Advised Bet:

5 Point Win - HIEROGLYPH @ 2.8

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253468,00.html

A bad result as Hieroglyph could only get 2nd. He beat the favourite by 7 lengths, he beat the 5/2 3rd fav by 18 lengths, but 'Bookiebasher Dude' the outsider of the 4 ruined the party and won the race.

I have posted this bet a touch earlier as I have to pop out. Should be back by 4pm and will post a bet I have for Nad Al Sheba.

Maggots are ugly

2:10 Warwick

Advised bet:

3 Point Place Lay - MAGOT DE GRUGY @ 2.12

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253326,00.html

A good result with the favourite 'Magot De Grugy' comfortably beaten and unplaced back in 5th place in a 7 runner race.

AK47

1 Point Place - AMMUNITION @ 2.2

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253325,00.html

A bad run from Ammunition as he was pulled up, resulting in a loss of 2 points.

Dr Fart - Godfreys Sweet

1:20 Fontwell

Advised bet:

3 Point Lay - DR HART @ 2.84

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253317,00.html

A good result as Dr Hart was unplaced in 5th and never looked dangerous.

1:30 Southwell

Advised bet:

4 Point Win - GODFREY STREET @ 2.4
1 Point Win - CLEVELAND @ 6.8

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253306,00.html

A good result with the classily named 'Godfrey Street' bolting up by 6 lengths and returning a profit of 4.6 points on the bet.

Wednesday 23 January 2008

I picked a pocket

8:50 Kempton

Advised Bet:

1 Point Win - POCKET TOO @ 12.5
1 Point Place - POCKET TOO @ 3.0

Final bet of the day, if its unplaced I have lost roughly 0.22 points if it wins expect an upbeat song to end the day with.

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253212,00.html

A cracking way to end the day as Pocket Too won by a neck. Another good day and that is just the way I like it.

Home your hosed?

7:50 Kempton

Advised Bet:

3 Point Lay - HOME @ 2.56
2 Point Win - YAMANMICKMCCANN @ 4.9

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253210,00.html

A winnng bet with Home unplaced in 3rd. The win bet was a big disappointment trailing home in last place and was being whipped as early as 3 furlongs into the race, but a winning bet is a winning bet so I must not grumble.

Georgie came fourth?

7:20 Kempton

Advised Bet:

3 Point Lay - GEORGIE THE FOURTH @ 2.66

This is one of the days gambles. Trading as high earlier as 4.1 on betfair now into 2.66, all bookmakers have shortened this one, so it is strongly fancied. Godfrey laughs in the face of gambles however and I am laying it (rightly or wrongly we will see).

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253209,00.html

A good result as Georgie came third :) and edged me into a small profit on the day, with more bets to come.

Kingsgate hovel

1:50 Lingfield

Advised Bet:

3 Point Lay - KINGSGATE CASTLE @ 1.74
2 Point Win - JALONS BRIDEWELL @ 5.9
1 Point Win - EVENSTORM @ 6.4

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253215,00.html

A loss of 5.22 points on the bet as Kingsgate Castle got on top of Jalons Bridewell well inside the final furlong. That makes it a loss of 2.22 points on the afternoon but the good news is the day is not over yet.

Hall of Shame

1:30 Musselburgh

Advised Bet:

3 Point Lay - HALL OF FAME @ 2.7

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253221,00.html

A good start to the day with Hall of Fame beaten in 2nd.

Stunning sand bonanza?

3:30 Southwell - Handicap (Class 5) 6f Std

TOWN AND GOWN - Trainer John Gosden has had 3 winners from 5 runners with his 3yo+ horses at Southwell in the last 5 years and that statistic alone means you have to respect this runner from a top stable. The horse remains a maiden though after 5 runs, and has looked one paced at this trip. She is unproven on fibresand and does not look progressive. Since the start of November, Gosden has had just 1 winner from 29 runners. The stable has not had a winner in January in the last 5 years. Does have the best form in the book but may prove vulnerable to a newcomer and not a horse to be taking a short price about, but at the same time not a horse to be laying purely due to the stables record at Southwell.

MOLLY ANN - A maiden after 5 races, has finished 2nd on her last 3 runs. She has raced over 7f and 8f so far, dropping down to 6f does not look ideal on pedigree (although she has been running as though this trip may suit it is debatable) and she may be outpaced in the final furlong. She does at least have proven fibresand form.

KIRKIE - He was 4th of 6 on his debut over 1 mile at this track. Dropping down to 6f should see him get outpaced and he may be of more interest when handicapping over longer trips.

MARQUIS DE LOUVOIS - Was 7th on debut at Kempton over 6f and should improve for that run. Was slowly away out the stalls, if he repeats the slow start at Southwell he is likely to find it hard to win the race. Andrew Mullen rides and he has only ridden 1 winner from 25 rides for the trainer and that was on a 2yo, so jockey booking does not inspire confidence.

MISS DOUBLE DAISY - 5yo maiden carrying 9-8, vulnerable to the younger horses in this race. Showed nothing when last seen 420 days ago, has to prove fitness, ability and not certain to handle the surface. Hard to fancy.

RED BARNET - 4yo maiden after 7 runs, drop down to 6f unlikely to suit, ran over 9f last time. Gives weight away all round and hard to make a case for.

HELPING HAND - Was 5th on debut at Southwell over 7f when ridden by an amateur. Hayley Turner takes over today and the drop to 6f should be fine. Should be straighter today and with natural improvement on this 2nd run he could run a good race and cant be ruled out.

BRUNTON BLUE - Was 8th of 11 at Lingfield on debut over 6f. Ruined chances by pulling hard that day. Has to prove she handles fibresand but would have a chance if she does handle it. J P Guilambert takes the ride and he has a 50% strike rate when riding for Jarvis (2-4). Jarvis has a 21% strike rate at the course. Trainers in form with 2 winners from his last 4 runners. Interesting.

BOSS HOGG - The only debutant in the field. This is a weak race and it would be no surprise if he were good enough to win. Has a good fibresand pedigree and yard gets the occasional 1st time out winner. An interesting runner in a weak race.

OVERVIEW:
A trappy race on a trappy day. I am prepared to risk 3 points on three horses that look generously priced. With doubts against the front three in the market I feel it is worth paying my money and taking my chance at the prices. No great confidence in the bet, but worth a punt at the prices for a decent return if successful.

Advised Bet:

1 Point Win - BOSS HOGG @ 22.0
1 Point Win - BRUNTON BLUE @ 16.0
1 Point Win - HELPING HAND @ 8.8

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253151,00.html

A good result with a profit of 6.8 points on the bet (Brunton Blue was withdrawn not under orders) as Helping Hand made all under a good ride by Hayley Turner. Boss Hogg ran a decent race in 4th behind the odds on favourite. A nice bet for a boring days racing.

Not if, but how far??

2:40 Folkestone

Advised Bet:

5 Point Win - QUIZZENE @ 5.3
5 Point Place - QUIZZENE @ 1.83

Overview:
It may well turn out that I have got this completely wrong, but I am shocked this horse is not odds on for this race and so am having a maximum bet. This is the only selection today.

RESULT:
http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253333,00.html

I staked 10 points and got 9.15 points back so a very small loss on the bet overall. Quizzene ran a good race in 2nd and had the rest of the field well beaten but the 4yo Souriceau was too good on this occasion and won the race. Perfectly happy with the bet though and dont mind losing 0.85 pnts on a horse that was grossly overpriced even though he didnt win this time.

Call the cops

2:50 Wolverhampton – Handicap (Class 6) (3yo)

BOLD DIVA - Won her last two races from marks of 45 (Kempton 6f) and 52 (Southwell 6f). She has a 6 l/b penalty today and that may be enough to stop her. She is a 3yo filly carrying top weight in a handicap. She only carried 8-0 and 8-4 for her two wins, she has to carry 9-4 today and that is the most weight she has ever carried and has 14 l/b more weight than last time. She won from 52 on fibresand last time, but her polytrack win came off 45, so she is no certainty to win off a 13 l/b higher mark back on polytrack today. Jockey Kirst Milczarek was a 5 l/b claimer for both of those wins, due to her recent winning spree she is now only a 3 l/b claimer so that is another 2 l/b extra on this horses back. On the plus side, she has improved with her last two runs and could progress again and she is in form.

WYNBERG – This is S Callaghans first runner (its amazing how many times a first time trainer wins with there first runner, or a jockey returning from injury etc wins on their first ride back). Doesn’t have much form in the book and has been unplaced and nearer last than first all 7 races. Has a tendency to miss the break and be slowly into stride although in his race at Lingfield last time he managed to fly out the traps and lead (a course where it’s very hard to make all) he was missing the break at Southwell (a course where you don’t want to miss the break), im sure if he bolts up these excuses will be used in the stewards room for the improved form alongside the new trainer must have worked some magic etc etc etc . I wonder if he has so far been ridden to get beaten so they can land a touch with the horse from his dropping handicap mark. If that is the case the touch is very likely to be today with it being the trainers first runner.

FULFORD – Won a weak Southwell maiden 2 runs ago over 6f. Was then beaten 5 lengths last time over Southwells 6f by today’s fav Bold Diva giving her 11 l/b, he is 14 l/b better off for a 5 length defeat today (+ the 2 l/b claim that Kirst has lost). Was 6th of 9 over C&D beaten 6 lengths, he may be better on fibresand or it may have been he needed that first run for 3 ½ months. If you forgive him his poor run at this track then he would definitely have a chance of beating Bold Diva and even winning this from a mark of 55.

REGAL VEIL – Beaten 2 ½ lengths by Bold Diva at 6f Southwell last time on her handicap debut. She is 23 l/b better off with that rival today for 2 ½ lengths (including the jockey claims) and she should be more streetwise after her initial experience of a handicap. She was well beaten in her 3 maidens (2 of them on polytrack) so there could be a case that she is better on fibresand, but a lot of horses run poorly in maidens only to improve when sent handicapping so potentially she is well in here if acting on polytrack.

WHEETFROMTHECHAFF – Was well backed in a very weak handicap last time, where all the runners were maidens but could only finish 4th. 6 of his 8 runs have been over 7f, the 2 occasions he ran over 6f he finished 10th of 12 and 13th of 13. The drop back to 6f has to be a big worry, he has a tendency to hang and isn’t straight forward. Hard to fancy carrying joint top weight in this race. Has been beaten in claimers and this looks a tougher race than the ones he has been running in.

LITTLE FINCH – Was beaten 3 ½ lengths by Bold Diva at Kempton over 6f. She is 27 l/b better off at the weights with that rival today (including jockey claims) and would have to have a serious chance of reversing that form. Richard Guest has put Krish Gundowry on board today, the jockey has ridden 2 winners from 5 runners on Guests 3yo and older horses. Does hold 3 entries in the next 4 days, could well show improved form today win and then turn out quickly under a penalty.

ANDRASTA – Beaten 20 lengths in a claimer last time, looks out of form and hard to fancy.

LIANI – Stable haven’t had a winner since July and are out of form. Hard to fancy this horse from today’s mark of 50 and may be better over 7f. Although 8-10 is a low weight this is the biggest weight she has ever carried. She has been beaten 7 times at selling level (unplaced in 5 of them) and does not look up to winning in handicap company. Although she ran respectably in her last two races that was on the fibresand and it’s possible she is more suited to that surface although she does handle polytrack.

Overview:

A truly sickening race filled to the brim with cretins, rogues and scoundrels. After looking at the card today I soon realised this was not a day to be risking big money and decided I would do a write up on one race and go with a bet in it. Well this is the race I chose as it has 8 runners and a short priced favourite that may be vulnerable.
Wynberg looks as though he may have been lined up to land a coup in this race, the graph on betfair suggests the same and at the time of writing the horse has been backed into 2nd fav and the price is in free fall so absolutely no surprises if this bolts up today and leaves all previous form behind. The favourite Bold Diva is improving and it’s not out of the question that she can improve again and run well though I have no interest in her at the price and there is plenty of negatives against her (wont be laying though). The two horses I can confidently (I think!!) rule out are Liani and Andrasta. Fulford, Regal Veil and Little Finch have all been beaten by Bold Diva but all 3 have a big pull in the weights today with that horse and the winner could well come from one of these 3. I think with Richard Guest putting on K Gundowry today that could be significant and it is the outsider of the field that I like especially as she is 27 l/b better off for a 3 ½ length beating at the hands of Bold Diva. I have decided to risk 3 points and back the 3 that stand out for me, but do understand that this race has an extremely dodgy look to it and anything goes. This bet is more for the sake of writing something today on my blog than due to any confidence in today’s racing and I would not be having a bet here if I wasn’t well in profit overall on this blog, as it is I am well in profit so will have a little play. All said we may well land a nice touch here, especially if Little Finch delivers the goods for us.

Advised Bet:

1 Point Win – LITTLE FINCH @ 40.0
1 Point Win – REGAL VEIL @ 8.8
1 Point Win – FULFORD @ 6.8

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252984,00.html

A good result with Fulford winning nicely and making a profit of 3.8 points on the bet and the day. Wynberg quite predictably ran his best ever race and improved bundles, he traded as short as 1.61 in running but could only manage 3rd (Im sure connections would have been on early E/W so they will be happy enough). Bold Diva did prove to be vulnerable and just got 2nd place. Little Finch ran a fair race in 5th although never looked like winning. Regal Veil missed the break and never looked dangerous back in 6th place. The two horses who I said I could confidently ruled out 'Andastra and Liani' filled the last two places. So all in all not a bad bet for a horrible looking race.

Saturday night on a black country beach

7:50 Wolverhampton

Advised Bet:

3 Point Lay - BUSCADOR @ 2.92
3 Point Lay - REBEL RAIDER @ 3.2

8:20 Wolverhampton

Advised Bet:

3 Point Lay - SILVER HOTSPUR @ 2.72

8:50 Wolverhampton -

Advised Bet:

5 Point Lay - MISTER LAMBROS @ 2.9

These are all of my bets this evening, have a good Saturday night and back tomorrow.

Balsa Wood Blaze - Red Hot Dutch

2:20 Ascot

Advised Bet:

3 Point Lay - MAHOGANY BLAZE @ 3.1

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252964,00.html

A good result as Mahogany Blaze was beaten into 2nd. The horse was involved in an early battle for the lead with Marodima and it ruined both of the horses chances as Wee Robbie had that little bit extra left in the tank at the business end.

2:25 Lingfield

Advised Bet:

2 Point Win - CONTESSINA @ 4.2
2 Point Win - WANNABE FREE @ 5.3

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252971,00.html

A losing bet with Boomtown making all and winning pretty nicely. Wannabe Free beat the rest of the field, Contessina ran badly and looked to be struggling early in the race and trailed home in last place.

Boy Aiwa

1:45 Ascot

Advised Bet:

5 Point Place Lay - MANSONY @ 2.3

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,251917,00.html

A good result with Mansony unplaced in 3rd and well held.

Ace fan cries?

1:20 Lingfield

Advised Bet:

5 Point Lay - ACE OF SPIES @ 1.65

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252969,00.html

A good result with Ace Of Spies beaten into 2nd by Vettorenjoy.

Bin Ocular

12:35 Ascot

Advised Bet:

5 Point Lay - BINOCULAR @ 2.2

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252962,00.html

A bad result with Binocular running out a very impressive winner and losing me 6 points in the process.

Will put my 3rd bet of the day up at 1pm.

Two becomes won?

12:15 Lingfield

Advised Bet:

2 Point Win - BON TON ROULET @ 8.4
3 Point Win - ADMIRAL DUNDAS @ 3.2

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253199,00.html

A good start to Saturday as Admiral Dundas got up on the line to win by a short head. Bon Ton Roulet was a big dissapointment but I made 4.6 points profit from the bet so mustn't grumble.

Friday 18 January 2008

Take it all

7:50 Kempton

Advised Bet:

2 Point Win - TAKAAMUL @ 16.0
2 Point Place - TAKAAMUL @ 4.5

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252826,00.html

An absolute cracker to end the day with as Takaamul bolted up. 37 points profit from one bet, as you may be able to tell by my choice of music, I am somewhat pleased with the result and may even have a little dance.

Party time twenty

7:20 Wolverhampton

Advised Bet:

2 Point Win - WATERLINE TWENTY @ 2.8
4 Point Place Lay - REBELLIOUS SPIRIT @ 1.86

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252825,00.html

A bad result as Rebellious Spirit finished 2nd behind Satyricon, Waterline Twenty was a big disappointment back in 4th place so I lost 5.44 points on the bet.

Saviles not right

6:20 Kempton

Advised Bet:

5 Point LAY - SAVILES DELIGHT @ 2.4

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252823,00.html

A good result with Saviles Delight being beaten in 2nd after comfortably being taken care of by Dodaa.

Pacifism toast

3:30 Wolverhampton

Advised Bet:

5 Point Place Lay - PACIFISM @ 1.71

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252834,00.html

An annoying result which resulted in a loss of 3.55 points. It was annoying because I really thought the Mark Johnston trained horse would win, which he did, I should have gone for a straight win bet on the favourite rather than trying to be too clever, I thought Sweet Hope and Elusive Lady may have had the beating of Pacifism so went for the place lay. Hindsight is wonderful. :)

Will update blog at 6pm ish for any evening bets.

Double Dutch

3:20 Catterick

Advised Bet:

1 Point Win & 1 Point Place - LOCH OSCAIG @ 6.2 & 2.06
1 Point Win & 1 Point Place - FENCOTE GOLD @ 7.6 & 2.4

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252842,00.html

A good result with Loch Oscaig hacking up by 10 lengths. Unfortunately Fencote Gold ran a bad race and didnt seem to appreciate the ground this soft, but we will settle for the 4.26 points profit on the bet.

Chef De Sensational

1:10 Catterick

Advised Bet:

2 Point Win - CHEF DE COUR @ 4.2
3 Point Place - CHEF DE COUR @ 1.82

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252838,00.html

A winning bet (not much but still a winner) with Chef De Cour finishing 3rd. He was 2nd for most of the race and was closing on the winner when making a mistake 2 out (no guarantees he would have won if he didnt make the mistake but he would have got closer) cost him his chance. It was a good bet though with a distance back to the 4th horse.

I may post another bet at 3pm so check back later.

Monash bad

12:40 Catterick

Advised Bet:

5 Point Lay - MONASH LAD @ 1.87

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252837,00.html

A good start to the day with the outrageously priced odds on favourite Monash Lad well beaten and unplaced in 5th.

Punting Patto's Saturday Selections

After a bad day at the office the day is ending on one hell of a high.
Yes you guessed correctly it's my favourite time of the week, the latest episode of 'Saturday Selections' with the legendary Australian horse racing man 'Punting Patto'.
Patto doesn't let us down and is joined by hollywood legend Arnold Scwarzenegger as well as performing his latest song.
ATR, Racing UK, Turf TV are you watching!!!!!!!!
This is how you tip horses.

Down the Qaasi

8:20 wolverhampton

Advised Bet:

5 Point Lay - QAASI @ 1.96
10 Point Place lay - QAASI @ 1.2

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252709,00.html

A bad result to end a bad day with. On paper Qaasi looked one of the worst odds on shots I have seen in a while but on the track he definitely looked like an odds on shot and won easily, I wont hesitate to lay a horse with a similar profile again though.
Bad days happen and one has just happened, the only thing to do in a situation like this is to get back up off the canvas tomorrow and take care of things
.

Given a dud

7:50 Wolverhampton

5 Point Place Lay - GIVEN A CHOICE @ 1.87

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252708,00.html

A good result on this rollercoaster of a day as Given A Choice was unplaced in 3rd.

Tapas fried?

7:20 Wolverhampton

Advised Bet:

3 Point Lay - TAPAS LAD @ 3.25

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252707,00.html

Another bad result on an up and down day as Tapas Lad just holds on to win.

Coleorton Chancer

6:50 Wolverhampton

Advised Bet:

3 Point Place Lay - COLEORTON DANCER @ 1.96

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252706,00.html

A good result to set myself back on track and prepare for my battle that is the Wolverhampton Thursday evening card. Favourite Colerton Dancer trailed home in a very well beaten last place.

Win and place bet

5:05 Nad Al Sheba

Advised Bet:

2 Points Win - FAMILIAR TERRITORY @ 2.1
2 Points Place - FAMILIAR TERRITORY @ 2.6

RESULT:
http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253195,00.html

Im not sure where I got those prices from, but the prices stated were a typo, it was actually 7.6 for the win and 2.1 for the place. Familiar Territory hit the front and looked a certain winner and traded as low as 1.1 on betfair but it got collared late on and could only finish 2nd, leaving me with the smallest of small profits on the bet.

Will post any evening bets at 6:30pm.

Fiesta 1.1 Litre

4:25 Nad Al Sheba

Advised Bet:

5 Point LAY - FIESTA LADY @ 2.72
3 Point PLACE LAY - FIESTA LADY @ 1.5

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,253194,00.html

An awful result with Fiesta Lady winning fairly comfortably. I thought Dettori had picked the wrong horse but in fact it was me who picked the wrong horse.

Ridiculous

3:00 Southwell

Advised Bet:

3 Point Lay - DIRICULOUS @ 2.9
1 Point Win - BENTLEY @ 6.0
1 Point Win - EGYPTIAN LORD @ 8.8

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252703,00.html

A winning bet with Diriculous comfortably beaten and unplaced. We missed out on the Brucie Bonus with Bentley proving too good for all bar the winner Cleveland.

I have a lay at Nad Al Sheba and will post it at 4pm exactly.

Harry Karry

2:30 Southwell

Advised Bet:

5 Point Place Lay - HAROLDINI @ 1.96
1 Point Win - DICKIE LE DAVOIR @7.6
1 Point Place - DICKIE LE DAVOIR @ 3.0

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252702,00.html

A good result to get us back on track with Haroldini unplaced. Dickie Le Davoir could only manage 4th place so 3 points profit from the bet.

George Headcase

1:30 Southwell

Advised Bet:

5 Point Place LAY - GEORGE HENSON @ 1.86

RESULT:
http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252700,00.html

A bad start to Thursday as George Henson wins the race. On the bright side it was a good job I only layed the place market and not the win market.

Wednesday 16 January 2008

King Crackers

6:50 Kempton

Advised Bet:

5 Point Lay - KING OF DIXIE @ 2.12
3/4 Point WIN - BUSSEL UP@ 6.6
1/4 Point WIN - MAGGIE KATE @ 36.0

(I originally posted 1/2 pnt win Maggie Kate, that was a typo and it should be 1/4pnt - 6:35pm)

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252584,00.html

A bad end to a good day as King Of Dixie ran out an impressive winner, Bussel Up got 2nd place but was no match for the favourite. We still finish the day around about 4 points in profit after losing 6 points in that race but I can never be happy about ending a day with a losing bet.

Just realised that I had calculated wrong and I actually lost 6.6 points in that race. Things have just gone from bad to worse but hopefully I will get back up off the canvas and take care of things tomorrow.

Beat... No arguement

2:40 Newcastle

Advised Bet:

8 Point Lay - BROOK NO ARGUEMENT @ 2.34
5 Point Place Lay - BROOK NO ARGUEMENT @ 1.37

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252608,00.html

A good result to finish proceedings for Wednesday afternoon. Brook No Arguement was comfortably beaten into 2nd but she ran a really great race to finish 2nd over this trip and is a horse to follow when she is sent over further. Didnt land the place lay unfortunately but made 6.15 Points on the race and you would be struggling to complain about that.

This is the last bet of the afternoon, I may post a bet for this evenings card at Kempton so check back after 6pm.

Noway De Beaumont - Boom Clown

2:05 Newcastle -

Advised Bet:

1 Point LAY - NEGUS DE BEAUMONT @ 2.18

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252607,00.html

An easy 1 point won, as Negus De Beaumont fell at the first.

2:20 Lingfield -

Advised Bet:

1 Point LAY - BOOMTOWN @ 2.74

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252593,00.html

A good result as Boomtown could only finish 2nd, he went close and was only beaten by a head, but Boomtown was always going to be vulnerable to a finisher at this track and so it proved.

Bingo Bango Banoge

1:30 Newcastle

Advised Bet:

5 Point LAY - BANOGE @ 2.98

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252606,00.html

A good result as Banoge finished unplaced. Virtually as soon as I posted the lay at the price of 2.98 a flood of money came for him and he was backed into 5/4 fav about 2.26 on Betfair. The money did not scare me in the slightest and Banoge did well to finish 4th in a tough race.

Nobbled Minstrel

1:10 Lingfield

Advised Bet:

2 Point Lay - NOBLE MINSTREL @ 2.74

Just a small lay to start off the day, would have layed to win more but due to lack of rivals will be keeping it nice and tight just in case the strong favourite should run flat, we do have the two outsiders running for us and in a tactical 4 horse race they cant be fully ruled out.

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252591,00.html

A poor start to the day as Noble Minstrel won. It is very rare I will regret having gone with a bet (even when they win, as I am always happy with my reasoning for each bet win, lose or draw) but I think this was a poor decision by me to go with this bet and I regret this one.

Tuesday 15 January 2008

Sweet Pickled (Deja Vu)?

4:00 Southwell

Advised Bet:

5 Point LAY - SWEET PICKLE @ 2.56
3/4 Point WIN - CEREBUS @ 6.2
1/4 Point WIN - ON THE MAP @ 60.0

A good winning day or a bad losing day. It all hangs on the final race at Southwell for me.

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252561,00.html

A good winning bet to end a strange old day. Cerebus tried to make all and traded as low as 1.25 in running but could only manage 3rd. Sophia Gardens swept late to take the race though and ensure it was a winning end to a day where we lost roughly 1 1/2 points. I can never be happy with a losing day in fact it disgusts me.

Yankee Gorm - Tangoed

2:30 Southwell

Advised Bet:

3 Point LAY - YANKEE STORM @ 2.4
2 Point PLACE LAY - YANKEE STORM @ 1.55

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252558,00.html

A good result with favourite Yankee Storm never looking dangerous and finishing 5th of 6 and landing the lay and place lay double whammy.

2:40 Kempton

Advised Bet:

3 Point LAY - STEELE TANGO @ 2.74

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252551,00.html

Sometimes in racing you just have to smile. Autumn Blades shot clear in the final furlong and traded at 1.01 only to be beaten by Steele Tango who traded at 50.0 and somehow got back up on the line to beat Autumn Blades who stopped to a virtual standstill in the final 50 yards.

I will be posting the final bet of the day at 3:20 so do check back.

Spuds are going down

1:30 Southwell -

Advised Bet:

3 Point LAY - SILVER HOTSPUR @ 2.8

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252556,00.html

A dissapointing start to the day as Silver Hotspur won by a neck from Palais Polaire. I dont like losing bets they are not an enjoyable affair.

Safeflaker

2:40 Southwell -

Advised Bet:

3 Point LAY - SAFEBREAKER @ 2.34

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252478,00.html

A good result with the favourite Safebreaker being comfortably taken care of courtesy of Mark Johnston's 'Especially'. That makes it 8 consecutive winning bets, hopefully I will be able to find 2 good bets tomorrow to ensure I make it to 10 consecutive winning races for the Hoopsternator and his followers.

Fulskoda - Saint Shocking

1:10 Southwell -

Advised Bet:

3 Point LAY - FULFORD @ 3.0

RESULT:
http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252475,00.html

A good start to the day as Fulford never looked dangerous and was unplaced 4th of 7.

1:50 Fakenham -

5 Point LAY - SAINT KADETTE @ 2.3

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252483,00.html

A good result with Micky Fitzgerald absolutely bolting up on 'Working Title'. Saint Kadette was backed into the odds on favourite pre race getting as short as 1.85 on betfair but, Working Title tracked him on the bridle before shooting clear and winning by 25 lengths to ensure there was never a moments worry with the lay of the horribly underpriced 'Saint Kadette'.

Sunday 13 January 2008

Prince of Medonkey

3:55 Kempton

Advised Bet:

5 Point Lay - PRINCE OF MEDINA @ 2.3

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252400,00.html

A good result to end a perfect day as Prince Of Medina was unplaced back in 5th.

Straight head case

1:15 Kempton -

Advised Bet:

1 Point LAY - STRAIGHT FACE @ 3.65

Overview:

Will play up some of todays winnings with a lay of this useless horse.

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252395,00.html

A good result with the favourite 'Straight Face' finishing in 8th place.

Salt of no worth - Wins Nowt

12:45 Kempton -

Advised Bet:

5 Point LAY - SALT OF THE EARTH @ 1.42
1/2 Point WIN - WHERRY @ 11.5
1/2 Point WIN - SPARTON DUKE @ 9.6
1/2 Point WIN - KAYSTAR RIDGE @ 27.0

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252394,00.html

A good start to the day with the strong odds on favourite being beaten into 2nd place. Picked up the winner with Sparton Duke as well so overall I would be pleased with the bet.

12:50 Leopardstown -

Advised Bet:

5 Point LAY - WINS NOW @ 1.91

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252522,00.html

A good result with Ruby Walsh and Scotsirish winning comfortably with the lay 'Wins Now' beaten into 2nd.

Steig in the dumps

Advised Bet:

8:50 Wolverhampton -

3 Point LAY - STEIG @ 2.46
3/4 Point WIN - NIQAAB @ 5.0
1/2 Point WIN - ART HISTORIAN @ 13.0
1/4 Point WIN - TEWKESBURY @ 150.0

Overview:
A good chance of getting the favourite Steig beaten and if that is beaten we have a great chance of being on the winner.

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252367,00.html

A bad result with Steig winning. Was a good winning day overall but this bet took the shine from the day.

Craptic

3:30 Warwick – Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) (5yo+) 3m 1f Heavy

CRYPTIC – Won a novice hurdle at Wincanton and then defied a penalty to win another novice hurdle at Haydock last time. This is his handicap debut today and his mark of 125 looks quite harsh on what he has actually achieved so far. This is his first time racing against battle hardened horses and he may struggle today for a stable that doesn’t have many handicap debutant winners. Although he won on soft ground he is unproven on heavy. Both wins came on galloping tracks and this sharp track may not play to his strengths. He is stepping up in trip and has to prove he can stay this far.

KEALSHORE LAD – Won a handicap hurdle from a mark of 110 2 runs ago. Was 9th of 10 last time from new mark of 125. Again racing off 125 he may be in the handicappers grip. A lot of people will be interested in the horse because McCoy is riding, however McCoy has only ridden 1 winner from 6 rides for the trainer so it isn’t an overly significant jockey booking. Both hurdles wins came on gd-sft though is effective on heavy ground. No problem with the trip and should go well but the mark of 125 should be enough to see him beat.

ARAFAN – Won a handicap hurdle from a mark of 103 in November. Has since been beaten from 110 and was unplaced from 121 last time, He is another horse who looks in the handicappers grip from his current mark. He handles heavy ground and the trip is fine so he can go well but his record of just 1 win in 26 starts is offputting.

BALLYSHAN – Won his only previous race on heavy ground and that was over todays trip from a mark of 115. He is only 3 l/b higher today from 118 and is a danger to all. The stable is in form and they do well at this track. Trip, track and ground are fine and he is close to a winning mark so is likely to go very close in this race.

BUENA VISTA – Has been off track for 296 days but has run well and won on his seasonal reappearance and fitness is rarely an issue from this stable. He has won 5 of his 12 hurdles races and has been placed in 3 of the 12. He was running over fences last season and won 2 of his 4 races. Returning to hurdles he could take the world of beating in this race, he has won on heavy ground. He was 3rd behind Noland in the Supreme Novices hurdle at the Cheltenham festival in 2006 and on his only previous run in a handicap, he won from a mark of 128 as a 4yo racing against his elders and giving weight away all round. Since that win he has improved and should be up to defying todays mark of 140. This is his first try at 3m 1f but connections are expecting it to suit and it could also bring even further improvement. He is the classiest horse in the field and has a big chance here.

MATCHO PIERLIJ – Is racing from 6 l/b out of the handicap, is likely to be outclassed at this level and should struggle. Stable still not fully firing and hard to make a case for this horse.

KEY PHIL – Running from 1 l/b out of the handicap, he has been out of form lately and impossible to fancy him. Should be outclassed at this level.

SILVER SISTER – Possible bounce horse on this 2nd run back after a break, has to prove she can stay this trip. Was well beaten only previous run on heavy and likely this ground does not suit. Hard to make a case for her and the only mare in the field should struggle.

Overview:

4 of the 9 horses can comfortably be ruled out. I am well against the favourite ‘Cryptic’ on his handicap debut and think he will need the experience of this race against quality opponents and the handicapper has set him a tough task. Arafan and Kealshore Lad both look to be in the handicappers grip. That leaves me with Buena Vista and Ballyshan and I think the winner will come from one of these 2 horses. Both horses are effective on heavy ground and can fight out the finish here. I have Buena Vista as being the likeliest winner though consider Ballyshan to be a serious danger.

Advised Bets:

4 Point LAY – CRYPTIC @ 2.6
1 Point WIN & 1 Point PLACE – BUENA VISTA @ 14.5 & 3.85
1 Point WIN & 1 Point PLACE – BALLYSHAN @ 8.6 & 2.5

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252374,00.html

A good result with Ballyshan making all and winning nicely. Cryptic ran a decent race without ever looking like he would get the better of Ballyshan. Buena Vista was back in 4th and its possible this trip stretched him. The bet made over 11 points profit and was quite a good one.

Swine alert

7:20 Kempton - 2 Point LAY - MIND ALERT @ 3.2

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252259,00.html

A bad result to end the day as Mind Alert won.

Wiseman Laying?

3:30 Wolverhampton - 2 Point LAY - WISEMANS DIAMOND @ 3.3

RESULT: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Full_Results/0,12493,252242,00.html

A good result as Wisemans Diamond was comfortably beaten.

Oliver Shone?

2:10 Kelso – Handicap Chase (Class 4) (5yo+) 2m 1f Heavy

TOPWELL- All form has come on good ground or faster. Only 1 win in 17 career runs. Unproven on heavy and was beaten 55 lengths only previous run on soft. Out of form at the moment and hard to see him running well.

STORMY BEACH – Best form on good and gd-sft. Ran very badly last time beaten 67 lengths from 103. Races off lifetime high mark of 104 today and may struggle. 11-9 is a big weight to be carrying in this ground. Form figures at this track are : 15th of 15, Pulled up and 11th of 17.

CORLANDE – Won over 2m 7f at Market Rasen last time from 96 in a novice handicap on his first run for 10 months last time. He is racing from 101 today and this race may come a bit soon for him. His last 18 runs have been over trips between 2 ½ m and 3m 2f. Dropping down to this trip he should be outpaced and struggle here.

SOMETHING SILVER – Handles heavy ground. Ran over 3m 1f last time when unseating rider when the 5/2 fav. Is effective over this trip and he ran well over a similar trip 2 runs ago. Was beaten 63 lengths on his only previous course run (hurdles). Was beaten 2 ½ lengths by Hollows Mist 2 runs ago, is 2 l/b better with that rival today but not guaranteed to reverse form with him.

MISS PROS – Mare carrying top weight in a handicap. Likes heavy ground and has run well on this surface. Trip and sharp track fine. Has won 2 handicaps from 92 and 101. Races from 106 today and has always found this mark beyond her. She didn’t look in the best of form last time over hurdles.

HOLLOWS MILL – Has won on heavy ground and has run well over todays course and distance before. 98 is the highest mark he has ever won from (Mar 06) and he is running from 98 today. The trainer has had 4 runners in 2008 and none have managed to complete (3 pulled up, 1 fell) and the stable aren’t in form.

PILLAGING PACT – Did win over C&D in 2002 but has been running over trips between 2 1/2m and 3m1f in recent years. Last time he raced over C&D he was well beaten when unseating his rider and he may lack the pace for this. Won last time but always goes well fresh and this is harder from a 5 l/b higher mark and on heavy ground over this trip.

OLIVERJOHN – Did win a novice handicap chase from 102 last January over 2 miles on heavy ground and this is his time of year. Races off 98 today. He ran badly last time on his first run since April 07 in a hurdle when 9/11 from todays mark of 98. He needed his first run back last year though and then won his next two races, so he should run a lot better today back over fences. Will try and front run. Won on heavy, effective over this trip and this is his time of year. Trainer has won with 2 out of 6 runners in handicap chases at the track this season (33%). Trainers in form and has won with 2 of her last 5 runners.

Overview:
This looks a really open handicap and I am against the front two in the market. Oliverjohn looks to have a really good chance today and is a nice price so I have sided with that one and it should be hard to keep him out of the first 3, he should try and make all or race prominent and with a lot of the horses likling longer trips when the pace quickens he is in the right place and some rivals could get caught out. The bet revolves around the two lays and I have: Oliverjohn, Pillaging Pact, Hollows Mill and Miss Pross on my side, all could be given a squeak with Oliverjohn standing out and I also have the two outsiders Stormy Beech and Topwell running for me, we only need one horse to finish in front of the lays and they cant both win.

Advised bet:

3 Point LAY – CORLANDE @ 2.86

2 Point LAY – SOMETHING SILVER @ 3.5
1/2 Point WIN – OLIVERJOHN @ 14.0
1/2 Point WIN- PILLAGING PACT @ 18.0
